Who Should End Roman Reigns Title Run

Written by Mr. YLP himself.

As of this writing, Roman Reigns is beginning to close in on 500 days as WWE Universal Champion. By the time Reigns walks down the aisle to defend his title at the Showcase of the Immortals, The Head of the Table will have easily eclipsed Brock Lesnar’s 503-day title reign that lasted from April 2017 to August 2018, where Reigns took the title away from Lesnar. It’s easy to see that WWE wants to make Reigns become the most dominant champion of the modern era, and with this version of Reigns, he deserves to be seen as the top guy in the company. But sooner or later, WWE knows that they have to take the title off of Reigns and place it on someone else on the SmackDown roster.

Here’s the humongous, 800-pound elephant in the room: as yours truly sees it right now, there is no one – and Mr. YLP Himself says no one! – on the SmackDown roster RIGHT NOW believable enough to not only take down The Bloodline, but defeat Roman Reigns and take the Universal Championship off his shoulder. Not Brock Lesnar. Not Drew McIntyre. Not Sami Zayn. Not Jeff Hardy. Not Shinsuke Nakamura. No one on the roster has that “he really could be the guy to take him down” feeling. With the news of Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns plans to have a multi-match series that begins at the Day 1 pay-per-view on January 1st, my heart immediately sank at the thought of possibly having to sit through another Reigns-Lesnar match at WrestleMania 38.

With WWE’s looming problem of being unable to cultivate and build new stars, their inability to creatively give fans storylines that we can sink our teeth into, and failure to provide us with matches that we can easily place in our Matches of the Year lists, it’s easy to see from my perspective that it’s an inevitability that more than likely, it will end up being Drew McIntyre taking the title off of Reigns and being the hero. That’s all well and good, but I know of one man that if Vince McMahon ever had the balls to want to build a brand around, he could do it with this man. That man is none other than….

KOTR Match of the Week/King of the Night – Wednesday May 12th, 2021

It has been awhile but WE ARE BACK with some of the best matches and people from this past week in wrestling!

Match of the Week: AEW Blood & Guts Match – May 5th, 2021 at AEW Dynamite

Blood, guts, and an overexposed crash pad! This match had everything a sick and twisted hardcore wrestling fan could dream of. You would be surprised how much blood they were able to show on LIVE TV. It was quite a colorful performance to say the least. Although the ending might have been meh and although it clearly resembled an iteration of the famed WAR Games match, it was still a fun match to show who the top faction on Wednesday Nights is!

Match of the Week: NXT Cruiserweight Championship: 2 out of 3 Falls Match – Santos Escobar vs Kushida – NXT May 11th, 2021

These two men just know how to work and all of their skills were on display in a 2 out of 3 falls match. Escobar shows why he is the next big thing to come out of NXT/205Live and Kushida gets a match he thoroughly needed to cement himself as a legit champion in NXT. Sky is the limit for both of these competitors

King of the Night: Jimmy Uso

Don’t look now, but the famed “Bloodline” is back together again…we think. Jimmy Uso made his return to actual SmackDown TV and made his presence known. He also made it known that he does not back down to no one, even the Tribal Chief. Funny how twins work because we remember another Uso saying the same thing. Will Jimmy carve his own path or is he destined to end up just like Jey? Only time will tell.

King of the Night: Referee Darryl Sharma

Just when you think you’ve seen it all in wrestling, NXT finds a way to surprise you. Referee Darryl Sharma broke the IWC after his surprise leap frog performance during a tag match between MSK and Breezango that instantly stole the show. Nothing was more exciting then seeing an athletic referee that can hang with the talent. You love to see it!

Don’t believe us!? CHECK THIS OUT!!!

WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT WEEK (WE PROMISE) TO HIGHLIGHT MORE OF OUR FAVORITE MATCHES AND SUPERSTARS!!!

Match of the Week & King/Queen of the Night – Friday April 16th, 2021

Off the heels of an epic WrestleMania week, the best matches and performers from this past week in pro wrestling have a bit of a “Show of Shows” feel if you know what we mean!

NXT UK Championship -Rampage Brown vs WALTER – NXT UK “The Prelude” – April 8th, 2021

Only a man like WALTER could defend his title twice in the same day on two different contents. Although his NXT TakeOver Stand & Deliver match with Tomasso Ciampa was a stunning show stealer, it didn’t hold a candle in the eyes of the HBIC to his match that he had on NXT UK earlier that day. We were SECONDS away from crowning a brand new NXT UK Championship, something we don’t really get to say often.

WWE Universal Championship – Daniel Bryan vs Edge vs Roman Reigns – WrestleMania 37 (Night 2) – April 11th, 2021

It was a demolition derby of a triple threat main event the likes we have not seen before and maybe never will again. Edge and the two other future WWE Hall of Famers Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan all showed that they could have easily won this match. In the end, it was the head of the table who came out on top…albeit with a little familial help.

SmackDown Women’s Championship – Bianca Belair vs Sasha Banks – WrestleMania 37 (Night 1) – April 10th, 2021

This will go down in history as one of the best main events in the history of WrestleMania for many reasons. For starters, it was the first time two African-American Women main evented the grandest stage of them all. Even more so, it was an AMAZING match. An instant classic loved by fans and critics alike. You will be hard pressed to find someone who disliked this unforgettable encounter.

Queen of the Night: Bianca Belair

Bianca Belair is a STAR after her performance in the main event of WrestleMania 37 Night 1. The fastest person to go from NXT to the main event of WrestleMania in history, Bianca Belair proved that she is undoubtedly the EST of WWE at WrESTleMania!

King of the Night: Bad Bunny

I do not think anyone thought that Bad Bunny would be THIS GOOD! We know he had been training and dedicated a considerable amount of time to learn the basics of the sport, but to do a CANADIAN DESTROYER on the outside of the ring was a site to see. Mix in the best WrestleMania entrance this year and Bad Bunny earned a TON of respect from everyone inside and outside of the ring!

Queen of the Night: Sasha Banks

At this point in her career, you can argue that Sasha Banks is the GREATEST female performer in the history of wrestling. Even in a loss she wins. Sasha has gone toe to toe with the likes of Asuka, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Io Shirai within a small span of time, giving them some of their best matches. After her well earned main event performance against Bianca Belair, Sasha Banks helped keep the tradition going of making a new star and ensuring that the future of women’s wrestling is in good hands. Now that’s BOSS.

Come back next week for the best performers and matches from the first week after WrestleMania!

KOTR Match of the Week/King of the Night – March 31, 2021

We end March with some of the best matches and performers from the final days of the month.

Match of the Week: No DQ Match – Ilja Dragunov vs Sam Gradwell – NXT UK – March 25, 2021

NXT UK is one of the best kept secrets in wrestling along with stand out Ilja Dragunov who put on a spectacular showing against Sam Gradwell in the No DQ main event for the week. This match took full advantage and anything truly went during this match.

Match of the Week: WALTER vs Drake Maverick – NXT – March 24, 2021

This is classic WALTER domination as he tunes himself up for NXT TakeOver during WrestleMania week. Drake Maverick didn’t stand a chance in this blink and you missed it style match.

Match of the Week: Jordan Devlin vs Kushida – NXT – March 24, 2021

In a definite fantasy matchup, these two in ring generals put on a clinic in the ring. Jordan Devlin proved that he might have a claim as the true Cruiserweight Champion. Only time…and maybe a ladder match…will tell.

King of the Night: John Morrison

He may not have the best dance moves, the best hair cut, or the best sense of style, but gosh dangit is Johnny Drip Drip funny! Morrison continues to impress as a comedic masterpiece with another award winning performance.

King of the Night: Bad Bunny

If you didn’t think Bad Bunny had any hits, then you have to agree that he sure does pack a punch! In a kayfabe world of tough guys, Bad Bunny showed that he can hold his own with an epic shoot punch on the Miz that may have blurred the lines between reality and art. It’s a must see over and over and over again.

King of the Night: Xavier Woods

Xavier Woods does not care about alleged 3rd party rules in his contract as he shamelessly promoted all of his outside revenue streams to the masses who watch RAW in a backstage segment. Xavier Woods is one of the most creative minds in wrestling and always finds a way to get himself, or his brands, over by any means neccessary!

We will see you next month which will bring WrestleMania and TONS of potential Match of the Year Candidates!

KOTR Match of the Week/King of the Night – March 24, 2021

Each and every week the hosts of Kings of the Rings Podcast select their favorite matches and performers from the past week in wrestling. Check out their selections below!

Match of the Week: Britt Baker vs Thunder Rosa – Lights Out Unsanctioned Match – AEW Dynamite on March 17th, 2021

If you weren’t talking about this match, then you must have been living under a rock. Dr. Britt Baker (DMD) and Thunder Rosa set the wrestling world on fire with the most talked about match of the week. These two women put on a match not often seen, if ever, in the world of women’s wrestling. This match will be talked about for many years to come!

Queen of the Night: Rhea Rhipley

Wasting no time in her RAW debut, Rhea Rhipley wasted no time and shot for the stars by challenging RAW Women’s Champion, Asuka, to a match at this year’s WrestleMania. Rhea Rhipley has all the confidence in the world after her stellar performance at last year’s WrestleMania vs Charlotte. Don’t be surprised if Rhea walks out this year with some gold around her waste.

Queen of the Night: Britt Baker

It’s hard to doubt whether or not Britt Baker belongs in pro wrestling anymore. Britt proved every doubter wrong in her star making performance against Thunder Rosa this past week on AEW Dynamite. Even though she lost, the whole wrestling world now knows who Britt Baker is. She’s undeniable.

King of the Night: Omos

Wrestling is only one part of the job and granted, we haven’t seen Omos wrestle yet. However, we have seen Omos be a comedic genius like he was this past week on RAW. Omos was able to hold his own with veterans AJ Styles, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods to be the highlight of the segment on RAW. If he is as great of a wrestler as he is with his comedic timing, Omos will have no problem making his way to the top of the card.

We will be back next week for another round of our favorite matches and wrestling superstars!

KOTR Match of the Week/King of the Night – March 18th, 2021

Each and every week, the hosts of Kings of the Rings Podcast will highlight their favorite matches and favorite professional wrestling superstars from the past week in wrestling.

Match of the Week: NXT Women’s Championship Match – Toni Storm vs Io Shirai – Wednesday March 10, 2021

Io Shirai might be the most consistent female performer in all of wrestling. She has one of most underrated championship reigns in NXT history. Her defense against Toni Storm was so smooth you could easily forget how fantastic this match overall is. Io now has a much TALLER challenge going into the upcoming 2 night Take Over.

Match of the Week: RAW Tag Team Championship – The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston) vs The Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin) – March 15, 2021

Beware of the ides of March cause you never know when The New Day and The Hurt Business might stab the main event in the back and steal the show. The New Day and The Hurt Business just know how to work together and they put on another classic on RAW. As seemingly the only two real tag teams in the division, expect them to cross paths again in the near future. Unless AJ and Omos decide to…..oh wait they did didn’t they?

King of the Night: MJF

The Long Island elite pretty boy/Salt of the Earth is steadily climbing his way to the “Pinnacle” of wrestling with his double down heel turn. MJF is perfectly placed as the leader of his own faction and the crowned heel prince of AEW for years to come. No one is going to shut this man up any time soon.

Come back next week for another round of selections!

Match of the Week/King of the Night – March 11th, 2021

Each and every week, the hosts of Kings of the Rings Podcast will highlight their favorite matches and favorite professional wrestling superstars from the past week in wrestling.

Match of the Week – Sting & Darby Allin vs Brian Cage & Ricky Starks – Street Fight at AEW Revolution – March 7th, 2021

A creatively brilliant cinematic match showcased the best of every participant in this match. Darby Allin and Sting had an epic big fight entrance while Cage and Starks looked as brutal as ever. This was a fun and entertaining match from start to finish.

King of the Night: Darby Allin

Darby Allin looked like a million bucks in his true coming out party and performance alongside Sting. Darby showed that he can hold his own and is one of the most creatively unique wrestlers in AEW.

King of the Night: Bryce Remsberg

He may have have been a bit overdressed for the occasion, but Bryce Remsburg brought all the drip to referee the exploding barbed wire death match. Nothing, not even the grand finale was as exploding as this unbelievably protective outfit was for the main event of AEW Revolution.

There is no telling what match and/or what personality our hosts may choose for their Match of the Week and King of the Night. Come back next week for another round of selections!
